Gaia Refills

Someone who loves you and the planet wanted to give you a chance to try Gaia Refills before it’s even launched. How lucky!

Likely, you’ve been given some mysterious jars with very little information, so scroll down to learn more about who we are and what we do.

We appreciate this is a bit unconventional, so if you have any questions or if you'd like to request a refill before we launch, simply WhatsApp us +44 (0) 7719920782.

A packaging

that's 100% reusable

Made of glass, stainless steel and silicon, it's the first 100% reusable packaging with 0% asterisks on the market.

A transparent solution

We've developed tools to help you understand where your products come from and how much of a difference you're making when shopping with us.

A curation of clean, kind,

local brands

We only distribute 100% natural, cruelty-free, ethically-sourced,

UK-based brands.

A strong community

We're building a community of people who want to reduce their impact on the environment through their lifestyle.

A hassle-free

refilling service

When you need a refill, we come to you and swap your empty packaging for a refilled one.

A movement

Our online shop is just a start. We will be opening our communal kitchen, our physical shops, work with businesses and charities, and offer consultations to our competitors.

A 100% reusable packaging.

Currently, there is no packaging more sustainable than the one you’ve received your products in. Glass can be cleaned, sterilised and refilled. The lid can be recycled. That’s as good as it gets.

But for us, that’s simply not enough. We want to know exactly what happens to our packaging when it’s empty and saying it’s recyclable does not provide any insurance that it will actually be recycled. More likely, it’ll still end up in the landfill or in a fish’s belly.

That’s why we’ve been working relentlessly for the past year and a half creating our own fully reusable packaging. Made of glass, stainless steel and silicon, it’s 100% reusable with 0% asterisks.

We’ve also replaced labels with vegetable-based ink that’s printed directly on our packaging because “compostable” is nothing more than a buzz word to us.

Yeah, our range is recyclable. Just in case. But we don’t hide behind this word. Because we don’t have to.

A curation of

clean, kind, local brands.

For us, there’s no point in solving the packaging issue if our values are not reflected in the formulations themselves. We’re interested in how the products we curate are made, what they’re made of, and where they come from.

By reducing distances between where they’re made and where they’re packaged, sold, and bought, we are considerably reducing their carbon footprint.

Furthermore, when supporting 100% natural, cruelty-free products, we’re creating an opportunity for their biological growth prior to extraction to absorb carbon dioxide, so you're not just reducing a negative impact on the environment but actually contributing to it's conservation.

The founders we work with are much more than formulators. They care about the world they live in and often came to create their own brand because they wanted to contribute in making it a better place.

Use our Savon Noir as a shaving balm, an exfoliator (apply with a kessa glove), a daily natural face cleanser, or an anti-ageing face mask (leave on for 5).

EXPLORE THE RANGE

Rely on our Shea Butter for literally anything, from a hair mask, to a healing balm for cuts, an eyelid primer, or a treatment for split hair, dry cuticles and chapped lips.

On top of our range of Essentials, we distribute other brands' products. In the context of this special pre-launch, you might have been offered a Mandarin & Calendula Cleansing Balm from wonderful London-based brand Suneeta (best used with a muslin cloth), but you'll have to wait for our official launch to discover the other brands we're partnering with.

Fall for our Aloe Vera Gel and use it as a primer and makeup remover, as a moisturiser, as a detangling conditioner, or mix it with our Brewed Coffee Grounds for a scalp treatment, a scrub, or a solution for dark circles.

Discover our Ghassoul and make masks, use as an exfoliant to promote skin elasticity, a scalp treatment for a revitalising effect, or a face cleanser to regulate sebum and help regenerate your skin.

A refilling service.

Together, we can end the need for single-use packaging in the beauty industry. Thanks to you, we can retrieve jars, clean them, sterilise them, and refill them, ready for the next consumer, so your beauty routine becomes 100% waste-free.

But we know words are simply not enough. After all, why would you believe one more brand that’s claiming it's all nice and sustainable? We wouldn’t. And that's why we’re developing a host of tools to help you make your mind about Gaia Refills.

A transparent

solution.

Costs breakdown for everything. We don't make money on the jars or deliveries so it's not like we've got anything to hide.

The Jar Tracker. It allows you to learn more about your jar's journey. Curious about where it comes from? Who it’s been with? What it was filled with? Simply type the code that’s engraved on the lid in the tracker and stalk like there’s no tomorrow.

People's Board. So we’ve got some trackers. Cool. But we’re not a tech brand. We like ourselves a good debate and improving Gaia Refills is best done in cute cafes and loud pubs. So we’ve created our People’s Board. That’s your board. Your committee. However you want to call it. It’s yours. It’s made of Gaia Refills consumers and its members change every year in January. It’s an occasion for us to test our latest ideas on our community and to hear what it’s got to say on a regular basis. Concretely, we’ve got a WhatsApp group and we meet a few times a year to discuss all things Gaia Refills.

Usually, we’ll invite people to join the board when they’ve been actively engaging with us and showed an interest in getting involved. There’s no application form, but if you’re interested in joining, just let us know and we’ll see what happens.

My Impact. To learn more about the impact you’re having on the environment when purchasing through Gaia, rendez-vous in the personal account tab. There, you can see how switching to refills has made a difference. And because the friends you’ve recommended us to have also had a positive impact, every time they make a purchase, your personal score is automatically updated.

Chat and emails. They’re not there just for you to say “omg are your payments secured?” (yes they are) but for you to really go on and on about what you want. If you’ve got ideas, send them. We read your messages and answer to all of them. If you’ve got questions, send them. We want to make sure everything makes sense for you.

A community.

It’s in Gaia’s DNA. Because our concept is so complex. Made of so many little bits. It forces us to prefer passionate discussions to elevator pitches. It forces us to answer loads of questions and really engage on the topic of sustainability with people.

We dread tiny little investor decks and can’t get our head around Twitter. We’ve just got too many things to say.

Maybe because 25% of our team is French, Gaia Refills is the perfect incarnation of the French’s favourite activity: “refaire le monde” (remake the world), which consists in sitting with a glass of wine and exhausting all possible topics until sun rises.

Evenings, weekends, at the theatre, in the pool, in bed, we’re growing an army. It might just be 2k big for the moment, but it’s growing.

Every day, it’s bloody growing.

It’s made of entrepreneurs, conscious brands, friends, families, charities, activists, followers.

It’s made of us. All of us.

Guys, it’s just a start.

We’ve got plans to open our London-based communal kitchen which will work as a sort of accelerator for emerging brands in a few months.  We will be providing refills for businesses locally. We’re chatting with local charities to give your unused beauty products a second life. And we want to help our competitors up their game through consultancy.

Gaia Refills is a refill company, yeah. But there's more to it.

A movement.
